April 3, 2020

Dear Families,

I hope this letter finds you doing well during the current pandemic our country is facing.  It is our mission to provide you with the best educational opportunities possible as we move through this new and ever-changing time. It is our hope to support you in the way that best fits your families’ needs. We are providing the following learning options for your elementary student while our school buildings are closed during the current pandemic:

  1. Traditional e-learning- We know this is working very well for many of our families and we are going to continue to offer this platform each week. Our teachers will be available to offer support during our normal eLearning office hours, (9-11 AM and 1-3 PM), during the designated e-Learning Days in April: 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, 28-30 and May 5-7, and 11-14.  As a reminder, our eLearning Portal is on the front page of our school website (https://www.washingtoncommunityschools.org/) pinned under the “latest news” area.  The direct URL to the eLearning Portal is https://www.washingtoncommunityschools.org/News/elearning-portal

  1. Choice Boards- Some of our families do not have access to internet services or devices. We are mailing Choice Boards for you to utilize with your scholars in grades K-6th. We are asking that your child completes 3 options daily from their grade level Math and ELA Choice Boards, and to pick one activity from each “special” area row per week for the “specials” areas (Music, PE, Art, and SEL - Socio-Emotional Learning).  If you can, please take a picture with a cell phone of any completed Choice Boards work and email to your teacher to see.

  1. We have received feedback from some of our families utilizing e-learning and requesting additional activities for your scholar. Please feel free to choose any of the Choice Board activities as enrichment to the e-learning curriculum.

  1. Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) - We understand that this is an anxious and confusing time for many of our students. SEL activities, provided by our School Social Workers, can be found in both platforms.

  1. Students with IEPs and students who are English Learners should continue to connect with their assigned resource teacher for those areas.  These teachers are available to support their students in all types of learning during this time.

We truly want to partner with all of our families to make the most out of the remaining weeks of the school year.   We will send every family a hard copy of their child’s grade level student Choice Boards for the remaining weeks we are out of school.  JH Choice Boards will be mailed next week. Please communicate with your teacher through email if any questions or concerns arise during this time.  Please take care of yourselves and your families.
