The USDA has adjusted the COVID-19 relief funds for school meals program to be retroactive until the start of the 2020-2021 school year. All USDA defined school meals (breakfast and lunch) for students in grades 7th-12th that were purchased since the beginning of the school year will be reimbursed. Any extras or a la cart items that were purchased will not be reimbursed. Refunds will be deposited in the student's meal account within the next few weeks.
Washington Community Schools Families,
Washington Community Schools was notified today the USDA has provided schools with COVID-19 relief funds for school meals. These funds will allow ALL students in grades 7th-12th to receive school meals (breakfast and lunch) free of charge, no matter their economic status. Students in K-6th Grade will continue to receive free school meals with no change.
This will begin on Monday, September 14th, 2020, and will continue until December 31st, 2020 or until the USDA communicates that federal funds have been exhausted. WCS will participate in this program for as long as funds allow. When this federally-funded program is discontinued we will notify families of this change.
Please note that only a USDA defined school meal will be given to students free of charge. Each day, your child is offered a lunch containing the following: a meat or meat alternative, a grain, a fruit, a vegetable and a milk. Out of these 5 food groups your child is offered he/she must choose at least 3 food groups for his/her meal. One of the food groups must be a fruit or vegetable. If your child elects not to take at least 3 out of 5 food groups, the meal will be charged to the child’s account. Any extras or a la carte items will be charged to the child’s account as well. Breakfast will consist of pre-packaged grab and go meals. Please see below for additional information as to what constitutes a school meal.
