eLearning

Washington Community Schools may use eLearning Days in the event of a school closing due to weather to keep students learning, connected, and supported.

We want to take a moment to explain the two types of eLearning your child may experience: (Asynchronous) eLearning and Remote (Synchronous) Instruction. Understanding the difference can help you better support your child at home.

ELearning

ELEARNING THUMBNAIL

The state of Indiana allows school districts to utilize up to 3 (Asynchronous) eLearning Days per school year. During an asynchronous elearning day:

  • Lessons and assignments are posted online
  • Students complete their work at their own pace
  • Teachers provide instructions, recorded lessons, and feedback rather than live instruction
  • Lessons can be completed anytime during the day

During a Remote (Synchronous) Instruction Day, a portion of the eLearning day will include live instruction from their classroom teachers online. During Remote Instruction:

  • Students log in at scheduled times
  • Teachers provide live online instruction
  • Students can ask questions and participate in discussions
  • Attendance and participation are expected
