Through engaging learning experiences, real-world career exploration, and advanced educational opportunities, our K-12 College and Career Readiness programs and the College & Career Academy at Washington High School help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in college, careers, and life. 

Our College and Career Readiness journey is designed to guide students through three stages: ENGAGE, EXPERIENCE, & EMPOWER. Students first discover their interests and opportunities, then connect learning to real-world experiences, and ultimately gain the skills, confidence, and direction to take ownership of their future.  

ENGAGE

Sparking Curiosity and Building Awareness

Career exploration at Washington Community Schools begins by helping students discover who they are and what is possible beyond the classroom. Through hands-on learning, real-world experiences, and meaningful connections, students build self-awareness while exploring interests, strengths, and future opportunities.

Students engage in:

• Kids at Hope “Time Travel to the Future” experiences that encourage goal setting and envisioning future possibilities.
• Scale K12 Microelectronics curriculum that introduces emerging technologies and high-demand career fields.
• RIASEC career exploration to identify interests, strengths, and career connections.
• Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Gateway (JH) and Launch (WUE), and STEM classes K-4 programs that develop creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving through hands-on learning.
• Dual Language Immersion creates bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural students equipped for success in today's global workforce.
• Cultural, community, and career exposure experiences, including guest speakers, field experiences, and connections with local professionals.

• Kids at Hope Destination Experiences encourage students to "Time Travel" to life's future destinations: Home & Family, Career & Education, Hobbies & Recreation, and Community & Service.
• STEM and Innovation Lab Experiences featuring engineering, coding, robotics, and real-world problem solving.
• Guest speakers and career panels featuring professionals and community leaders.
• College, career, and workplace visits that expose students to diverse postsecondary options.
• Job shadowing and worksite tours that provide authentic workplace experiences.
• Annual Job Symposium to connect students with employers and postsecondary pathways.
• Mock interviews and workplace readiness activities that strengthen professional skills and confidence.
• TRANSFR Virtual Reality Career Exploration that immerses students in a wide range of career experiences.

Students move beyond exploration and begin taking meaningful steps toward their future. Through rigorous academics, career-connected learning, leadership opportunities, and real-world experiences, students build the knowledge, skills, credentials, and confidence to succeed after graduation.

• College & Career Academy pathways that connect academics to career interests through hands-on, career-focused learning.
