Microelectronics: Connecting Students to Careers Right Here at Home
The technology behind the devices, systems, and equipment we use every day is creating new opportunities for high-tech careers—and Washington High School students are getting an early look at what those careers can look like.
Through the Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy, Washington students are gaining hands-on experience in microelectronics, learning about electronics, circuits, design, testing, and other technologies connected to the semiconductor and defense industries. The Academy is a partnership involving Regional Opportunity Initiatives, area schools, higher education, and industry partners. Students can also earn college credit, industry credentials, paid work experience, and valuable career connections.
What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is the chance for students to see a career pathway right here at home. Our region’s growing microelectronics and defense technology industry connects students’ classroom experiences to real-world careers, with WestGate@Crane Technology Park serving as a hub connecting education, industry, and the defense community.
The Indiana Uplands Microelectronics Academy connects students to real-world skills and career opportunities in their own region. This is what Future Ready looks like: giving students the opportunity to explore high-demand careers, gain real-world experience, and discover that a successful future can begin right here at home.
