Washington Community Schools is proud to announce the hiring of Alex Boyd as the next head coach of the Washington High School boys basketball program. A proud graduate of Washington High School and former student-athlete, Boyd is ready to lead the Hatchets with a strong foundation in player development, leadership, and program-building.

Most recently, he served as an assistant coach for the Washington High School boys varsity basketball team during the 2025–2026 season, where he led opponent scouting efforts, conducted film sessions, and assisted with practice planning and game-day preparation. He also played a key role in coordinating team logistics and maintaining clear communication with players.

In addition to basketball, Boyd has served as an assistant coach for the Washington High School boys varsity golf team since 2024, assisting in tournament operations, practice planning, and player development.

Boyd previously served as head coach of the Washington Junior High School boys basketball program from 2022 to 2025, compiling an impressive 50–15 record. During his tenure, he emphasized fundamentals, accountability, and preparation—both on and off the court. He organized structured practices, monitored academic progress, and mentored student-athletes to ensure a smooth transition to the high school level.

“Alex’s passion for Hatchet Basketball and his ability to relate to his players has been evident since he started coaching for us. He loves this community and everything it stands for.  He has learned from the best in Coach Gene Miiller and Coach Brandt Schuckman.  Alex will be able to keep the current staff in place and continue to help develop our student-athletes into young men,” said Larry Cochren, Athletic Director at Washington Community Schools.

Boyd earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from the University of Southern Indiana in 2025, with an emphasis in facility management and athletic administration. While at USI, he developed a strong foundation in coaching, leadership, and team dynamics.

As a student at Washington High School, Boyd was a four-year athlete in basketball and golf, served as class president, and was actively involved in student leadership organizations.

Boyd is committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. He is also an IHSAA-certified basketball official and a member of the Southwest Indiana Officials Association.

Washington Community Schools looks forward to the future of the program under Boyd’s leadership.
