Washington Schools empower students to Imagine, Achieve, and Master skills needed for success in a rapidly changing, diverse, and technical society. Furnished with Chromebooks and IPads, the PK-12 educational setting provides students a dynamic technology-integrated curriculum that challenges and focuses them on the competencies they need to graduate and enter the workforce and college.
The district’s four K-6 elementary buildings follow an Indiana State Standards-aligned curriculum in math, English-language arts, science, social studies, fine arts, and a high ability program. Through partnerships with Crane and the Westgate Academy, STEM, computer science, robotics and coding activities are abundant throughout our elementary schools. Students can also enjoy a variety of extra-curricular opportunities including Just say No, Spell/Math Bowl, Robotics Club, and athletics.
Washington Jr. High School serves students in grades 7-8, while Washington High School’s population in grades 9-12. Both schools provide Project Lead the Way coursework such as PLTW Gateway, Computer Science, Pre-Engineering, and Bio-Medical Science. Washington High School’s Graduation Pathways offer a variety of educational and vocational opportunities in guiding students towards college and career readiness. The high school also partners with the Vincennes University Early College Program, allowing students to earn dual-credit in several classes as well as through AP (Advanced Placement) coursework. WHSH Broadcasting, a student-run radio and television class, allows students to learn by producing athletic and other activity programming for the community to enjoy.
Believing that active participation is a critical component for student growth, Washington Schools offer a wide range of extracurricular activities. From the award-winning choir and band programs to a strong state and national representation in leadership organizations such as BPA, DECA, and BETA, students are able to connect, explore, and expand their world. The NJROTC program not only develops citizenship and leadership, but it also encourages community involvement.
No description of Washington High School would be complete without acknowledging that it is home to one of the nation’s largest high school gymnasiums. The “Hatchet House”, with a seating capacity of 7,090, imparts the quintessential Hoosier Hysteria atmosphere, hosting sectional, regional, and semi-state games. In addition to multiple boys’ basketball state championships, Hall of Fame winners, and Mr. Basketballs, the community can boast of post-season successes across multiple other sports - football, baseball, softball, cross country, track and field, tennis, golf, soccer, and wrestling. Hatchet Pride is abundant in our schools and in our community!
