Donations

The board would like to thank and approve donations from Memering Farms, Don Gress Construction, and Armes Grain and Livestock who assisted with the demolition of Hatchet Hollow to offset the cost of the project. 

Information Report

Washington HS Senior Jayden Meredith was recognized for his selection as the Daviess County Lilly Endowment Scholarship recipient. 

Scott Neidigh, Academic Advisor at Washington JH, shared information about the upcoming visit from NBA star Chris Herren, who played at Boston College and Fresno State, two seasons in the NBA – including one with his hometown team, the Boston Celtics – and seven seasons overseas before losing it all to the disease of addiction. A person in long-term recovery, Chris continues to share his story nationally with a renewed focus on prevention education and challenging audiences to rethink how we look at the disease of addiction. On January 26, 2023, Chris Herren will speak with students in grades 6-12 during the school day, and to the community at 6:00 pm at the Washington HS Auditorium.

Washington Primary Principal Tom Lee, Kristen Murphy, Kristen McGuire, Brenda Meredith, Mary Sacarello, and Shannon Strange shared with the board an update on the planning of the Dual Language Immersion program. Dual immersion education integrates an equal number of native English-speaking and native Spanish-speaking students in the same classroom. Students develop oral and cognitive academic language in English and Spanish while mastering grade-level knowledge and skills in all elementary content areas. There will be a Parent Meeting on January 30, 2023, at 6:00 pm at Washington Primary for families of incoming kindergarten students to learn more about the program.

New Business

 

The board approved permission to advertise bids for the Hatchet Hollow Renovation Project, as well as the approval of the E-Rate Bid for 2023. 

The board also approved two trip requests, one for the DECA Student Career Development conference and one for the BPA State Leadership Conference.
