In the Education Pathway at WHS, students learn various skills, tools, and techniques. Some topics include using technology in the classroom, teaching strategies, learning styles, laws and history of teaching, education terminology, debates in teaching, and classroom management. Students also have the opportunity to spend time in a classroom and partner with a teacher as cadet teachers in our schools.

This year, students in the Education Pathway, Maddison St John, Bree Browning, Lanie Donaldson, Alexis Sarabia, and Raul Valdez, have been working hard to plan a complete lesson. Principal Brian Holland, School Board Member Jason Omer, and Ann Herman, Chair of the Education Department at Vincennes University, acted as students and participated in their lessons to help students practice in front of an audience.

The students' lessons were well thought out and included websites, slideshows, and graphics. After they presented their lesson, they set up several stations for students to participate in, which included hands-on activities like games, bulletin boards, fun manipulatives, and worksheets to reinforce the lesson.

There is a teacher shortage in Indiana and the Education Pathway is designed to help find educators in our school system and prepare them to come back to Washington Community Schools to teach and make a difference in students' lives.
