Kim Conder - Teaching Innovator Grant Recipient

The Graffiti on Deck Project will give 6th-grade art students the opportunity to explore the world of graffiti as a legitimate art form and apply their knowledge in a fun, hands-on way. Students will study the history, styles, and cultural significance of graffiti, then design their own miniature skateboards. Each student will create a unique piece of artwork that reflects their creativity while connecting to popular culture. 

"Middle school students are at a critical stage where creativity and self-expression play a powerful role in their personal growth,” says Conder. "Many of my students are naturally drawn to street art and skate culture, but rarely see it celebrated in a positive, academic setting. By channeling their interest into a structured project, students will learn about artistic techniques, cultural history, and the importance of respecting public spaces while still enjoying the bold, expressive qualities of graffiti.” The Foundation conducted its competitive grant program from May to August, inviting Daviess County educators to apply for resources for the first semester of the 2025-26 projects. The Foundation’s Administrative Fund provided funding for this program.
