Our Community Foundation Awards Second-Semester Teaching Innovator Grant
Our Community Foundation has announced the second-semester Teaching Innovator grant recipients. Washington Primary Elementary received a $250 grant to support Silent Disco Expansion. Washington Primary Teaching Innovator Morgan Dillon and Principal Kristen Murphy accepted the award.
Silent Disco is an area in Dillon’s classroom that allows students to self-regulate throughout the day. This area uses items such as silencing headphones, sunglasses, breathing tools, and timers to help students prevent feeling overwhelmed and to address emotional needs proactively.
According to Dillon, this allows students to gain and maintain a healthy view of self-regulation. If students are prepared from an early age with proper tools and techniques, they will be more adept at handling the challenges they face throughout their educational journey. The Foundation conducted the competitive grant program during November and December, inviting Daviess County educators to apply for resources for the second semester of 2024-25 projects. The Foundation’s Administrative Fund provided funding.
“This program makes a strategic investment in the education of Daviess County youth,” says Travis Schaffer, Foundation Board President. “The funding empowers educators to be innovators and create dynamic learning environments that meet the diverse needs of students, so our Daviess County youth are better prepared for success in our ever-changing world.”
