Understanding the Lunch Line: A Parent's Guide

Please note that only USDA school meals will be given to students free of charge. Each day, your child is offered a lunch containing the following: a meat or meat alternative, a grain, a fruit, a vegetable, and a milk. Out of these 5 food groups your child is offered, he or she must choose at least 3 food groups for his or her meal. One of the food groups must be a fruit or vegetable. If your child chooses not to take at least 3 out of 5 food groups, the meal will be charged to your child’s account, and parents will be responsible. Any extras or ala carte items will be charged to your child’s account as well.
